The Gordon B. Kaufmann-designed structure, built by the P.J. Walker Company, is constructed of steel-reinforced concrete, faced with Indiana limestone, and roofed with Welsh slate. The entire estate cost $3,166,578.12 to build, with the mansion itself accounting for $1,238,378.76 of that total.
